You can see smartwatches on the wrists of people everywhere today. One in six consumers has a wearable gadget. Wearable technology has the fastest growth rate of any technology sector. It’s easy to understand why, with all their useful features that make life easier and more efficient.

When were smartwatches first invented and what features made them so popular today? In this article, we’ll answer these questions.

Smartwatches are used to solve crimes.

You may remember the comic strip Dick Tracy. The hero of crime fighting wore a wristwatch that also doubled as a radio. In the 1960s the watch was upgraded to allow video calls. Comic strip started in 1931, and then became popular TV show. Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that Dick Tracy’s wristwatch was the inspiration for the Apple Watch, which is the smartwatch that has the largest market share.

When was the smartwatch first invented?

Smartwatches are not new inventions. They have been around for many years. The Hamilton Watch Company introduced the Pulsar in 1972. The watch was covered in 18-carat yellow gold and required a push button to reveal the digital clock. The smartwatch sold for USD 2,100 and paved the path for future models.

What has happened to smartwatches since then?

Seiko created the T001 in 1983, as seen in James Bond’s Octopussy. The screen had two sections. One showed the time, and the other regular watch functions. However, the lower part looked like a TV screen, so that the wearer could view videos. It was a first-of-its kind, even though the quality was not great.

Samsung released its first smartwatch in 1999. It was able to make a call. The SPHWP10 was equipped with an LCD screen and a speaker/microphone that allowed the wearer to speak for 90 minutes.

Pebble’s successful Kickstarter campaign raised $10 million in 2013, proving that smart devices are in high demand. Pebble can be used as a remote control for smartphones or other devices, such as GoPro cameras. The Pebble App Store has over 1,000 apps.

Smartwatches for Fitness

Smartwatches make our lives easier because they track our daily activities and health to help us make better lifestyle decisions. Apple Watch sales continue to increase since the COVID-19 outbreak, as people want to take care of their health and stay at home. In the third quarter, 45.5 million smartwatches or fitness bands were sold.

There are Workout apps that encourage people to stay inside due to the pandemic. There are also dance workouts and core training exercises. Now you can track your sleep cycles to improve the quality of your sleep.

Smartwatches for Healthcare

Hand-washing timers are available on smartwatches to ensure that you wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds in order to remove all bacteria and germs. Smartwatches are increasingly being used in healthcare, particularly by elderly people, to help with hand-washing.

Smartwatches have a wide range of applications in healthcare. They can be used to monitor people with Parkinson’s disease, or fall detection. With the help of new technology, seniors can now feel secure living alone at home. Some devices can alert a person if they fall over and are unable to stand up. Smartwatches that detect falls can also be used as personal alarms that could save someone’s life.

Smartwatches are a great way to keep track of your fitness. They can also save lives. Smartwatches can not only track our fitness, but they could also save lives. As technology advances, we can only hope that these devices will continue to serve as a force for positive change.
