Preparing for Gynecomastia Surgery: Essential Tips

Did you know one out of three Americans has gynecomastia. This condition causes men to have enlarged or excessively developed breasts. Men with gynecomastia are not only unable to wear t-shirts and polo shirts that fit, but also suffer from low self-esteem. You may not be able to enjoy certain activities, such as going to the beach or the gym.

Surgery is the most common treatment for gynecomastia. You can get rid of your man boobs and regain your confidence with the help of a board certified plastic surgeon. These tips will help you to prepare for surgery.

1. Get a candid diagnosis.

You must first be examined by an experienced plastic surgeon. This exam will determine which procedure is best for your condition.

Man boobs can occur in men who have lost a lot of weight. An areola-reduction procedure can correct this. Liposuction can be used to achieve a flat, smooth chest for men with excess chest fat (also known as pseudogynecomastia). Most men, however, have both excessive fat and an overproduction of breast tissues. This involves a surgical procedure to remove excess fat and breast tissue.

2. Change your lifestyle.

You will need to stop using these medications before surgery if your condition was caused by recreational drugs or prescription medicine. Some medicines like ibuprofen and aspirin are anti-inflammatory. They should be avoided at least two weeks before surgery. They can cause bleeding to increase during and after surgery.

It’s best to quit smoking at least a couple of weeks before the procedure. Smoking can slow down your immune system. Alcohol consumption is also affected. You will be at greater risk of infection and your healing process will be slowed down.

Improved diet and exercise will improve your health overall and speed up the healing process for your skin and tissues.

3. After surgery, you can heal.

You can expect to be bruised and swollen for two weeks following a gynecomastia or liposuction surgery. You can expect a quick recovery if you are well prepared.

You should also buy a compression t-shirt to wear after surgery. Wear it for at least 12 hours a day for two months. It reduces swelling and aids in achieving desired results.

Gynecomastia is a safe and effective way to remove excess breast tissue and fat from men. Follow the above tips to ensure that your surgery goes smoothly and you have a short recovery time.
